To Conceal or not to Conceal

Concealer can be your best friend and take a make-up look from good to amazing. But it can be your worst enemy too. Before we get too far on this I personally want to stress that concealer is not foundation and I don’t recommend using it as foundation.

It’s important to not only get the right shade of foundation but to also get the right shade of concealer. Concealer does exactly as the name implies; conceals. Acne, dullness, dark circles, even hyperpigmentation can all be concealed with concealer.

Concealer can be used to help highlight your face as well. But do not feel you have to use concealer to highlight. In the future I will go into more details of highlight products. As with any products, a little can go a long way, you do not have to apply concealer in a triangle under your eyes. Start with a little product and add more as needed.

Which products are worth using and which should you steer away from? These are my preferred brands and you can find a concealer that works for you, in any brand of make up available today.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Concealer – I love their foundation, so this is one concealer that I know will work for me and my skin. It comes in a variety of shades so you can match your skin tone, or if you are looking for a highlighting concealer, you will find the right shade for that too.

Tarte Shape Tape – The formula on their foundation is perfection, and that quality follows through on their concealer as well. As with the Estee Lauder, Tarte comes in a variety of shades for your skin, and one big plus on this brand is the large doe’s foot applicator that comes with it.

And lastly Cover Girl – This brand is iconic and completely historic for me. I started my makeup experience using Cover Girl products. And they are still a wonderful choice. You will find a great selection of concealer shades, maybe not as many as the other brands, but a good selection for most skin tones. But this one offers a better price point that the other two concealers mentioned in this post. So if you are looking for economical, drugstore brands are wonderful.

When using any of the products mentioned always find the appropriate shade for you. And remember, make up is only needed to enhance your beauty not to make you beautiful. You already are.
