And we are showcasing another Stephen King novel, Carrie. This one is a classic in everyway, and the movie is a wonderful choice to start your exposure to Stephen King, if you haven’t watched any of the other movies on this list by Mr. King.
The movie follows Carrie White, a teen girl, who is incredibly shy and sheltered by her overly religious mother. Carrie is the girl in school who is an outcast, and socially excluded because of her mother. Due to a prank during her phys. ed. class the popular girls who perpetrated the prank get punished. Because of this the girls vow to get revenge.
Senior prom is coming up and one of the popular girls, feels true remorse and asks her boyfriend, Tommy, to take Carrie to prom instead of her. Surprisingly Carrie accepts much to her mother’s dislike. Mrs. White believes that most events lead to sin, including sexual intercourse, menstruation, and the prom.
The night of prom, Mrs. White does her best to prevent Carrie from going out and having fun, however Carrie uses the hidden powers of telekinesis to attack her mother. She then goes to the prom with Tommy.
During prom, the final act of the popular girls revenge becomes known, and Carrie doesn’t handle the humiliation and seeks her own revenge on the school.
