Christmas Movie – Elf

Where do I begin with this one? First of all, I’m not a fan of Will Ferrell, I think he tries too hard to be funny and fails. With that said, I do enjoy some of his movies, but this isn’t one of them.

Is it a good movie for kids and families? Yes. Is it one I watch with my family? No. But I have seen it so here is a brief review of the movie.

Orphaned as a baby and unintentionally stowed away in Santa’s sleigh, Buddy was raised by Papa Elf who is the head elf for Santa. Buddy is raised to learn the fine art of toy making and spreading joy. He loves Christmas, Santa, making toys, and his father. But when Papa tells him that he isn’t really an elf (he stands twice the size of the others) but a human, Buddy sets out to find his real father in New York City.

Finding his father, Walter, who is at first disbelieving that Buddy is his son, but then he learns it’s true. Introducing Buddy to his wife and son, Michael, Buddy tries to fit in, even getting a job at a department store where he meets, Jovie.

Needless to say, Buddy doesn’t fit in, and instead of making people happy, he makes them frustrated. Christmas Eve approaches, and the Christmas spirit is lacking in New York and around the world, Buddy has to find the fastest way to spread cheer, is to sing loudly for all to hear. Will it be enough?

Elf stars:

  • Will Ferrell – Buddy
  • Bob Newhart – Papa Elf
  • James Caan – Walter
  • Zooey Deschanel – Jovie
  • Ed Asner – Santa
  • Mary Steenburgen – Emily
  • Daniel Tay – Michael

Enjoy the Holiday Movie!
