Eastern State Penitentiary

Again we visit a reported haunted location that can be found in Pennsylvania. The once famous prison whose walls had held notorious criminals, now stands in ruin. Crumbling cell blocks and abandoned guard towers are all that remain of it’s grand architecture. Originally designed to inspire true regret and penitence in the prisoners, the prison survives to help deepen the national conversation about criminal justice. Please see their website at easternstate.org to learn more.

Eastern State Penitentiary, called ESP, was operational from 1829 until 1971. The prison refined the system of separate incarceration, and it was a prison that emphasized reform instead of punishment. In 1913 the prison abandoned the solitary system and operated as a congregate prison. In 1923 the female prisoners were moved to a different prison in Muncy, leaving the prison solely for men.

For those interested in the paranormal, we can thank Warden Herbert “Hardboiled” Smith for some of the inhumane punishments that occurred at the prison. Some of the punishments he authorized include; reduced food portions, being dunked into ice baths in winter, tightly bound to the mad chair which cut off circulation, an iron gag in an inmate’s mouth ripping their tongue and mouth. The inmates may also find themselves in the dark cells of Cellblock 13.

Let’s lock ourselves up with the horrors that await if you go to tour this haunted location. Eastern State Penitentiary has many paranormal stories. There have been many groups to tour the site and investigate the stories that have been reported. The following are a few of what you may encounter when visiting.

  • Full body apparitions with a sack over the head have been seen. This dates back to the 1800’s when the prisoners were let out for a few hours a day to exercise but were forced to wear an eyeless sack over their heads.
  • Notorious inmates are said to be lurking inside the walls, such as Al Capone and William Blackie Zuposki.
  • Moving objects, doors slamming, and spirits roaming, can all be experienced.
  • You may also experience the disembodied moaning and cackling from Cellblock 12.
  • Shadow figures darting along the walls near Cellblock 6.
  • Cellblock 4 has a negative, horrible energy that produces tormented faces that beckon you forward.

Are any of these things true? Well that is up to you to decide. The organization that runs the tours at the Penitentiary do not claim that prison is haunted, they state they run a haunted attraction. So if you are looking to explore and discover for yourself, check out the website and lock yourself in for the night.

Fashion Do NOT’s

We have all worn clothes that we thought we could take over the world while wearing. We have also worn clothing that we would never want to have anyone see us in. We can see the fashion magazines and online sites that flaunt all the new styles from every fashion week as it happens. But are there things that we need reminding are a fashion do not? Or perhaps a fashion never again?

Let’s have some fun and review a few areas of fashion that we really should not revive. You may or may not agree with all of these fashion trends listed here, I would love to know fashion trends you do not want to see come back as well.

Halter tops that look like scarves – This isn’t the worst option, but it literally looks like the scarf is going to strangle her and it really doesn’t do much for her physique. Not that she needs to show off anything, but wearing a top like this you are trying to enhance your assets and this type of top doesn’t seem to be doing it for her.

Visible underwear and Saggy pants (Men take note) – This look, if you want to describe it that way, looks horrible. Most women are not interested in a man who wears their clothing this way. It is suggested that this look originated in prison as a signal for sexual availability. However the truth is, in prison inmates often get issued clothing that is too big and are not allowed a belt.

Platform Sneakers – These were considerably more popular in the 1990’s during the height of the Spice Girls popularity. The trend fell out of popularity in the 2000’s, and hasn’t been seen much since. Although it may have been iconic at the time, it’s a fashion trend that doesn’t need to be revived. I personally find it difficult somedays to stay on my own two feet with nothing more on than socks, wearing shoes that raise me up another 5-6 inches is not something I want to attempt.

Shoulder Pads – Shoulder pads were a fashion trend in the 1980’s for women re-entering the workforce and wearing their power suits in a male dominated world. However this trend lost its appeal around the time that Dynasty and Dallas went off the air. Sadly some celebrities are wearing more shoulder pads in the 2020’s. Just say no to shoulder pads and allow your actual physique to shine through.

Popcorn Shirts – Many of us may not know what a popcorn shirt was or is. Sadly I do recall owning one of these shirts in the early 1990’s. Since it’s a shirt that doesn’t flatter but rather adds bulk, I hope it stays in the past where it belongs.

Jelly Sandals – When I was young I remember have the classic jelly shoes. These, like the platform shoes of the 1990’s, were iconic. However the original style has morphed into the atrocity that we unfortunately got in the 1990’s and 2000’s. This is a style that should be retired and not “improved” and “reinvented” for the next generation.

These of course are only a few fashion trends that should remain retired (or completely abandoned) and not reintroduced in the future. I would love to hear your thoughts on what trends you feel should be added to this, or if there are trends listed that you want to keep. Please leave a comment!

Bill’s Beef Sandwiches

In my hometown there is a restaurant that sells awesome pizza and amazing beef sandwiches. You can customize your sandwich, or have it plain. Since we LOVE these sandwiches and wanted to create them at home as authentically as possible, we were gifted with the recipe from someone who had previously worked there. Now these ingredients may not seem like they should be in here, but trust me, you need to use them all and you will be amazed at the results.

  • 2 – 5 pound Beef Chuck Roast
  • 2 Bay Leaves
  • 2 – 3 Whole Allspice Berries
  • 6 oz. Dill Pickle Juice
  • 2 Beef Bouillon Cubes
  • Salt, Pepper, Cayenne

  • Cut the roast into large pieces. Salt and Pepper the pieces, add as much Cayenne as you like. Let roast sit for 30 minutes before placing into the crock pot.
  • In the crock pot add the roast, bay leaves, allspice berries, dill pickle juice, and beef bouillon cubes.
  • Cook on high for 3 – 4 hours, strain out the bay leaves and allspice berries. Continue to cook another 2 – 4 hours until the roast shreds easily.
  • Serve on hoagie style rolls, with pickle slices, provolone cheese, mushroom, sautéed onions and peppers.

The ABC’s of Feeling Sexy – N to T

Continuing where we left off, we have reviewed half of the sexy alphabet so far. These suggestions are just that, suggestions. You need to do the things that interest you and not feel that this is a checklist to complete all of them. Find the suggestions that you and possibly your partner would enjoy and stick to those. Let’s continue on in the alphabet and help bring that sexy back.

N is for Nipples – Women have very sensitive bodies and certain areas are more sensitive than others. Why not use that to your advantage? What’s beautiful about the ABC’s is that you can use multiple letters together. M and N sound like they could be very enticing.

O is for Owning your Orgasm -While having sensitive bodies, women are also complicated. We strive to feel that magical release, but sometimes it just doesn’t happen. That’s why we need to ensure we are owning our orgasms ourselves. Yes our partners do have the ability to assist us, but we not only need to be in the mood, we also have to be in the right mindset. Seduce our minds and the rest will follow.

P is for Passion – Passion is a strong feeling. Perhaps it’s a passion for an activity, a hobby, or even for a person. Let your passions build and you may find that they extend beyond your original focus.

Q is for Quickie – As we just spoke of passion, sometimes it builds to a peak, and we need to alleviate the pressure that has built. At that point, a well timed quickie with your partner may be the best option. Quickies are designed not to be long lovemaking sessions, but they are exactly as stated, quick. But if you have built up that need, you may only need a couple minutes to own that orgasm.

R is for Roleplaying – When in a long relationship, things can get stale. That’s when we need to find ways to spice things up. One easy way to do that is to roleplay, find something that you both want to try, and play it out. It could be meeting as “strangers” in a bar, or simply dressing up and pretending in the bedroom, or anything you can come up with. Don’t be afraid to go out of your comfort zone. But be comfortable to say, Stop, or use your safe word.

S is for Spanking – Spanking is not just for those interested in a BDSM lifestyle. Spanking can be highly erotic and be a fun foreplay activity. Please be sure to communicate with your partner about how intense you want the spanking to be and for how long. You may want to start slowly, and build up. But a well placed slap on the butt can be just enough to take you over the edge, or start the foreplay while doing dishes.

T is for Tickling – My husband is ticklish. I’m not very ticklish. That being known, I can build his sensitivity and entice him by simply tickling him throughout the day. If you and your partner want to have a good tickle session, who knows how it will end or by what means. Laughter is also a type of release that you can enjoy. A woman laughing from her partner is almost as powerful as providing her that orgasmic experience.

These ABC’s are all merely suggestions you can try. You are not required to do any of them. If you do choose to try them out with your partner, please be sure to be safe, practice with consenting adults and have fun. Next week we will finish the alphabet, and I would love to hear if you have any success in finding that sexy in your life.

Suesan and Sheila

*Warning – The information you are about to read may include discussions of true crimes, graphic details, and crime scenes, this may be too graphic for some people, please use discretion when reading*

The murder of a person is tragic enough, but when that murder comes at the hands of the people you should be able to trust most in this world, it’s makes it even worse. Today, we are going to discuss the tragic deaths of two sisters whose deaths were coordinated by their mother, and carried out by their siblings. The family dynamic was very outlandish, and was filled with anger, resentment, jealousy, and rage. This is the story of how Theresa Knorr used her children to facilitate the heinous murders of her daughters, Suesan and Sheila.

Suesan was born in 1966 in San Francisco to her parents Theresa and Robert. Through out her life, Suesan had been the focus of her mother’s hatred and anger, and experienced physical, verbal, and psychological abuse from her. Suesan’s brothers, were also trained to beat, discipline and restrain her.

In 1983 during a heated argument, Suesan was shot in the chest by her mother, Theresa, with a 22-caliber gun, the bullet was lodged in her back. Not seeking medical help, Theresa left Suesan to die in the family bathtub, but miraculously she survived with no professional treatment.

When Suesan asked to move out in 1984, Theresa surprisingly granted this, but with one condition, she had to let her remove the bullet from her back. The “operation” took place on the kitchen floor by Suesan’s brother Robert, who used a box cutter. Infection soon set in and she became delirious. As she lay dying, Theresa informed the other children that Suesan’s illness was a possession by Satan and the only way to purge the demon was with fire. Suesan’s brothers Robert and Bill took her to Sierra Nevada, left her on the side of the road, poured gasoline over her, and burned her alive. Suesan was 17 years old when she died.

Sheila was born in 1965 in Roseville, California to her parents Theresa and Clifford. As none of Theresa’s children were spared from abuse, similarly to Suesan, Sheila was also the target of her mother’s anger. Theresa was primarily jealous that her daughters were growing up and blossoming, while she was growing old and losing her looks.

In 1985, Sheila had been forced into prostitution by her mother. Because of this forced career, Theresa accused Sheila of transmitting an STD to her via a toilet seat. Because of this allegation the abuse to Sheila escalated and she was locked into a closet. Being deprived of water and food, she died a few days later of dehydration and starvation. Her body was then packed into a cardboard box and dumped on the side of the road. Sheila was 20 years old when she died.

Both Suesan and Sheila would remain unidentified until 1994, when their youngest sister Terry, contacted authorities after watching America’s Most Wanted. In 1995, Theresa Knorr pled guilty to avoid capital punishment. She was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences. She is eligible for parole in 2027.

What would make a mother want to murder her own children? Why did Theresa only focus on the two oldest girls? Why torture your children in such extreme and horrible ways? These questions are asked, but never answered. What are your thoughts on this case? I would love to hear your feedback and if you have any other True Crime cases you would like showcased.

Are Essential Oils, Essential?

Most of us have heard of Essential Oils. Many of us have probably used them at some point. But I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not that familiar with them. But thankfully, I have the resources to research them and learn more. And lucky for all of you, I can hopefully share some new tidbits of information with you. Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts that retain the natural smell and/or flavor of their source.

It’s important to know how your essential oils are made, if you do it yourself, you know exactly what plants you are using, and how you process them. Most of us do not have that option. You want to be sure you are working with a provider that isn’t using chemical processes to obtain the oils, as these are not true essential oils.

The most commonly used practice with essential oils is with Aromatherapy, in which the oils are inhaled in a variety of ways. Essential oils should never be ingested, and some should not be used on the skin, please follow your aromatherapists advice on how to apply and use your essential oils.

There are over 90 commonly used essential oils, each with certain health claims. Your body can benefit with different oils for things ranging from stress, anxiety, headaches, and depression. There is some claims to the benefits of essential oils, however more research is needed and ongoing. You can use essential oils for your home as well. The overall scent in your home, laundry applications, cosmetics and mosquito repellants.

Essential Oils are an unregulated industry, so that means you need to do your homework before purchasing oils. Use a reputable source, get recommendations from people you trust. The success of essential oils, depends on your body and how it responds to them. Some people claim essential oils have helped them cure migraines, heal rashes, and assisted with other ailments.

When looking at brands or sources for your essential oils it’s important that you remember to check on the Purity, Quality, and Reputation before purchasing.

  • Purity: Find an oil, that contains only aromatic plant compounds without additives or synthetic oils. Pure oils will usually list the plant’s botanical name rather than terms like “essential oil of plant” If you need clarification, the seller should be able to explain it completely to you, if not, perhaps find another vendor.
  • Quality: True essential oils are ones the least changed by the extraction process. Choose a chemical free essential oil, that has been extracted through distillation or cold pressing. If unsure, ask the seller, if they can’t tell you, then purchase from another source.
  • Reputation: Purchase a brand with a good reputation for producing high quality products. Don’t be afraid to ask around, you need to do the research for yourself.

Overall essential oils are considered safe to inhale or apply to your skin if they are combined with a base oil. They should not be ingested. As with all health applications, please consult your doctor or health care professional when adding remedies to your life. Do not change orders or medications from your doctor without speaking with them first.

Skincare Battle – Part 5

*This post is not sponsored by any of the products or brands mentioned therein*

For the first four parts of the Skincare Battle, please reference the following posts:

Hello my lovelies! We are getting to the last few battles for our skin. Today we review Moisturizer. What is a moisturizer? Why do I need it? What does a moisturizer actually do? What one is best for my skin?

What is a moisturizer? Is it the same as lotion? A moisturizer is a preparation used for protecting, hydrating, and lubricating the skin. This is something that would normally be done by the sebum naturally produced in healthy skin. A lotion is similar to a moisturizer but has a higher water content. A lotion works on top of the skin to cause some sort of effect, preventing sunburn. A moisturizer is a cream, that is designed to bring benefits into the skin. They can include; minerals, vitamins, or moisture.

Why do I need a moisturizer? There are many reasons you may need or want a moisturizer. It can help reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles, reduce the number of other blemishes you may have, helps your skin stay young, or even help your skin maintain it’s proper balance. If any of these reasons are something you are concerned with, keep reading for some options that may work for you.

What does a moisturizer actually do? Moisturizers can do many things, depending on your needs and your skin type. A moisturizer can treat and prevent dry skin, protect sensitive skin, reduce sebum production, help improve the overall texture and mask imperfections.

*As with past postings, please do not change your routine without testing your skin. If you have a skin condition, please consult with your doctor. Do not stop taking any prescribed medications/lotions/creams that your doctor has ordered to help with your skin.*

To determine your skin type, please check with an esthetician, dermatologist, or other skin professional.

For those with normal skin you have many options for a moisturizer. I have tried many moisturizers and my skin is normal to dry depending on the year. So the one that I’m currently using is from a brand that has been around for as long as I can remember. Olay. A heavy duty moisturizer from their brand is the Olay Regenerist Whip SPF 40. This product is lightweight, whipped like cream formula, that transforms into a liquid once applied for faster absorption. Priced at $29 USD, you can find it at most drugstores or retailers.

If you are prone to dry skin, you need something hydrating. Neutrogena Hydro Boost is highly recommended ant contains Hyaluronic Acid to help with moisture. This is a gel cream formulated for extra-dry skin, and in addition to the hyaluronic acid, it contains glycerin which will quench your dry skin and leave it soft, smooth and hydrated. You can purchase this product online, or in retail stores. Prices start at $14 USD.

When you have acne prone skin, or oily skin, you need a moisturizer that will not cause more breakouts. Oil free are the key words you need to find on your moisturizer. A popular choice, and a brand that I absolutely love is Dermalogica. They have a moisturizer called Active Moist. This is a sheer, lightweight, oil free moisturizer that has ingredients to provide deep hydration. Now the price point is higher, but in general the most you need to apply should be no more than a quarter sized amount for your face and neck. Available online or at beauty stores, prices start at $66 USD.

Combination skin is frustrating. Some areas are overly dry, some are excessively oily. What are you to do? That’s why brands have created moisturizers for combination skin, these moisturizers help restore and maintain the natural barrier to keep skin moisturized. An option that is pretty popular is Garnier Skinactive 3-in-1 Face Moisturizer with Rose Water. This is an oil free hydrating option, and smells amazing. Available at local retailers, starting at $13.49 USD.

Those with sensitive skin, need to make sure they aren’t irritating their skin with their moisturizers. The process to find the perfect option, can be long, painful and frustrating. One brand that is known for helping those with sensitive skin, eczema, and psoriasis, is Aveeno. They have a product for sensitive skin called Calm+Restore. It is a product with lighter hydration, fast absorbing and provides plenty of moisture. Also for sensitive skin, this product has a prebiotic oat and feverfew blend known for calming irritation. Product can be purchased online or in beauty stores, starting at $10 USD.

Lastly, I wanted to touch on those with mature skin. Not always can we use the same product as we age. No matter what age we are we want healthy, glowy skin. We may still have the same skin concerns, but may need to find alternates. One that is highly recommended is CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. It provides hydration for dry skin, glycerin, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid to help replenish skin moisture. This product can be purchased online or at retailers, starting at $16 USD.

St. Nazianz, Wisconsin

Being from Wisconsin, I can’t wait to explore local haunted places within the state. I’ve recently learned of this small town, that claims to be the most haunted location in Wisconsin. St. Nazianz (Pronounced, Nay Zee Aahnz) is a small village in Manitowoc County. Population as of 2019 was 848 people. This village has a unique history, and perhaps a creepy one as well.

In 1854 a priest by the name of Father Ambrose Oschwald, left Baden, Germany with over 100 of his congregation, seeking religious freedom. It was rumored that Father Oschwald was a heretic and he and his followers participated in a mystic cult. Arriving in Wisconsin, Father Oschwald purchased 3840 acres creating a haven for him and his followers. By the end of the year, St. Nazianz village had a church and several log houses.

So you may be asking, why is this village creepy. It began in 1873 when Father Oschwald was dying. With his eyes closed, Father Oschwald was observed extending his hands in blessing, and then signal someone away. There was only one person in the room, Anton Still, and he didn’t witness anyone else in the room with them. During that night there was mysterious pounding on the walls of the room, and residents in the village stated they experienced similar noises in their homes. This all stopped after the death of Father Oschwald the next day.

Father Oschwald was placed on view until his crypt was completed in St. Ambrose Church. When his body was viewed before internment, it was commented that he had not decayed, his skin had a lifelike complexion, and there was no odor of corruption. And 53 years after his death, Father Oschwald was moved to his permanent crypt, and members of the clergy observed that he was in remarkably good shape at that time.

After his death, the State of Wisconsin came in and took almost 3800 acres of St. Nazianz, this action supposedly caused Father Oschwald to curse the town that he built. This curse caused over $100 million USD in damage in 2000, when a massive storm ripped through the area.

As the whole village of St. Nazianz is rumored to be haunted, the most haunted location is the seminary building, JFK Prep. The rumors indicate that Father Oschwald haunts the building, along with a student who had committed suicide there. The building’s grounds also have reported the ghost of a headless priest. Rooms in the school have been boarded up for staff and student safety, as the fourth floor has both the Satan Room, and the Suitcase Room. Outside it is rumored that the stone pillars that held the Stations of the Cross were bleeding.

The property has several building, all in various levels of neglect, connecting them all is the underground tunnels. These can be nightmare inducing and not to mention claustrophobic. The town residents themselves have been reported to be very odd, edgy, and even protective about the location. Is there still a mystic cult in St. Nazianz that has been active since they moved there from Germany?

Many of us have piercings. Whether is it our ears, noses, lips, or other areas on our bodies. Piercings are a way to express our individuality and to also be a bit fashionable as well. Although that may not be a primary focus.

Considering we are covered in skin, we have an entire body that is able to be pierced, some areas should certainly remain piercing free but we aren’t limited to our ears only. We like to express ourselves, stand out, and be creative; piercings are simply a way to do all that.

We may not pierce ourselves hundreds of times, but it’s not uncommon to have multiple piercings in our ears, nose, lip, eyebrows, or even genitals or nipples. The worlds most pierced man and woman, may provide your more reason to get pierced or limit it, however it’s always your call.

Your body is your canvas and I’m not here to tell you what you can or cannot do.

There are options, I personally wouldn’t get, such as sternum piercing. There are two beads on either end that sit on the surface of the skin, and can be changed to suit your needs.

Any piercings on my lady parts is a no go for me. Along with anything on my nipples. However I understand it can be highly pleasing to those who have had it done and their intimate partners. I’m more about using the piercings to enhance my overall look, not solely to define who I am.

What I would get would be a few extra piercings in my ears. And I’m interested in a nose ring, and tongue rings scare me, but it’s something I have considered. However I do not see many other piercings in my future.

I would love to know what your likes/dislikes are in regards to piercings. What do you have, what do you want, what do you not want? Please leave your comments, and any other feedback!

On The Dinner Table – Chicken Pot Pie

Is there anything better than a pot pie? Comfort food at it’s best. And if it’s a chicken pot pie with a home made crust, piping hot from the oven….there is nothing better on a cold day, or any day. Below is the recipe I will only ever use in my house. You can adjust the vegetable and seasonings to your taste if you don’t care for certain flavors.

Ingredients: Crust

  • 3/4 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup cold water

Ingredients: Filling

  • 2 1/2 cups halved baby carrots
  • 3 celery ribs, sliced
  • 6 tbsp. butter, cubed
  • 7 tbsp. all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 2 1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 4 cups cubed cooked chicken
  • 1 cup frozen pearl onions, thawed
  • 1 cup frozen peas, thawed
  • 3 tbsp. minced chives
  • 3 tbsp minced fresh parsley (1 1/2 tbsp. dried parsley)
  • 2 tsp minced fresh thyme (1/2 tsp dried thyme)
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten

  • To prepare the crust: In a large bowl cut the butter into the flour until crumbly. Stir in the cheese. Gradually add water, until the dough forms a ball. Cover and refrigerate, for at least 1 hour.
  • For the Filling: In a saucepan, cook carrots and celery in a small amount of water until crisp tender, or your preferred level of tenderness, drain and set aside.
  • In a large saucepan, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour, salt and pepper until smooth. Gradually whisk in the broth and cream. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Stir in the carrot/celery mixture, chicken, onions, peas, chives, parsley, and thyme; heat through. Transfer to a greased 13×9 inch baking dish.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the dough to fit the top of the dish. If you have extras, you can let them hang over the sides, these extras are fought over in my house. Place dough over the filling, cut vents. Brush the top of the dough with the lightly beaten egg. Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 25-30 minutes or until bubbly and crust is golden. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
