Color Correctors

Hello my lovelies! Today I wanted to discuss a product that is important only if you need it. Color correctors can make your look go from Velma to Vamp.

They are designed to be put on your skin, after moisturizing and priming. Before your foundation and other products. And you can get a palette of numerous colors…..but what do you do with them all? Rest assured I am here to help guide you on this.

Now we all have areas on our faces that we want to correct. It could be acne, dark under eyes, or even problem areas that are considered in the ‘five o’clock shadow’. Each area that needs correcting has a special color corrector for it. Please remember to use the “less is more” philosophy with color correctors. You can always add more if needed but it’s nearly impossible to take away extra product after you have added it, unless you wash it all off and start again.

So here is what you can use a guide when using color correctors:

If you have acne, rosacea, or other redness on your face, you will want to cancel that out with a green or yellow color corrector. It is not required to use both, one or the other will work very well. Simply dab on the product and tap/blend it into your skin. When adding your foundation over, you won’t see the redness, nor the color corrector but it will make your foundation cover better.

If you have dark under eyes, or perhaps bruising on your face, you will want to correct that color with a pink color corrector. As above, dab it onto the area, less is more, and then blend into the area that needs correcting. Especially with your eyes, if you add too much product it will start to crease and have the potential of caking when you add more product on top.

If you have yellow spots on your skin, think dull patches; using a purple color corrector is a way to neutralize those areas. Dab it onto the areas that need it and you will see an overall brightening on your face. It is possible to use this on your entire face, but since I’m also concerned about adding too much product, I would limit it to the areas you need it most.

Now for the areas of your face that you have blue undertones; reach for an orange or peach color corrector. This is especially true for my hirsute ladies out there. Blue undertones on your skin would occur primarily if you have facial hair (usually of the unwanted variety). However, those men who do wear make up, you will want to find a perfect color corrector for those areas to help eliminate the shadow and allow your foundation to cover fully.

There may be other color correcting shades out there, so please do your further research or ask a professional make up artist for other suggestions. The options above would most likely work with the majority of areas that need correction. Again, I want to state that you will need to use the barest amount of color corrector and even if you perceive a flaw, it may not require a color corrector. If you can skip adding product to your face, please don’t feel you have to add color corrector to yours. More product means more possibility of pores being clogged and more breakouts or other issues.

You are beautiful just as you are and do not need to cover your beauty with layers of product just to satisfy the world’s idea of what a woman should look like.

Levi Weeks

Who is Levi Weeks? I’ll be honest until I started to write this post, I didn’t know him either. I hadn’t even heard the name before until doing some research. Let me take you on a brief journey to Manhattan, NY.

Levi Weeks was born in 1776 in Massachusetts, and moved to New York in 1798, to work for his brother Ezra.

December 22, 1799, Levi and his lady friend, Gulielma Sands, were going out that night. Gulielma informed her cousin that she and Levi were going to be wed that night. In secret. Unfortunately Gulielma didn’t marry, but her name would be tied to Levi Weeks for eternity.

In Manhattan, there is a well, located in Lispenard Meadows. Now in today’s Soho. This well was located at the intersection of Greene and Spring Streets. It is in this well that Gulielma’s body was found on January 2, 1800. Her possessions were recovered near the well on December 24, 1799.

Now it was known to several people that Levi and Gulielma were seeing each other that night, and they were seen leaving her boarding house together. Levi was arrested and put on trial from March 31 to April 1, 1800. He was defended by Aaron Burr, Alexander Hamilton, and Henry Brockholst Livingston. When the jury went to deliberate, they took all of 5 minutes to find him; Not Guilty.

However, Levi left New York anyways as his reputation was in shambles. Almost everyone thought he was guilty. He was still able to find success in Natchez, MS. Levi became a successful architect and builder, married and had 4 children. He passed away at age 43, in 1819.

The murder well as it has now become known, still exists. It is currently closed off and unless you are doing a special on the most haunted locations of America, you will most likely not see the inside of the well. The well is currently housed at 129 Spring St, Manhattan NY, and is in the basement of a retail store. Of which you can still see the well while shopping, as the well is visible in the men’s department.

Workers in the store claim that there are odd happenings and mysterious occurrences in the store, that they contribute to Gulielma Sands and her murder. People have claimed they can hear the screams of Gulielma near the well. Is this really true? There truly is only one way to find out.

If you have visited the retail store, and were able to see the well first hand, please share your experiences with me! I would be very interested to know if the well is still haunted, and the area surrounding it as well.

Sarah

Everyone has hobbies. Some people collect things like stamps, or thimbles. Some like to run marathons or be in a triathlon. And some like to collect bugs or leaves in nature. Hobbies are great, until they become extreme and become your sole focus in life. Your hobby then becomes an obsession. And your obsession could lead to worse things, as is the case of Matthew Hoffman.

Matthew was born November 1, 1980. Not much is said about his childhood and upbringing other than he had strange tendencies. Very strange. Matthew liked to sit in trees. Now you may think, kids climb trees all the time, true; but Matthew sat in the tree, just to be near it. Not to play, not to watch nature, simply to sit in the tree and be there. He captured squirrels, and ate them. Again you may think, a lot of people eat squirrels, and again you are right, but these people cook the squirrels, Matthew did not.

Matthew had some issues with the police in Colorado for victimless arson, for that he served time in prison. Upon his release he went to Ohio. He also continued another little hobby, burglary. He used the stolen items to help support himself after he lost his job. The house he had chosen to enter next was that of Tina Hermann and her two children, sharing the house with their friend Stephanie Sprang.

Matthew took time to stake out the house. For three days he stayed in the woods, and watched the comings and goings of the residents. On November 10, 2010, Matthew saw Tina leave the house. As the garage door wasn’t fully closed, Matthew snuck into the house. He claimed that he was only there to steal something, and was excited to be in someone’s house.

Tina Hermann, Kody Maynard, Stephanie Sprang

While he was still in the house, Tina returned home. Matthew was in the bedrooms when Tina confronted him. He told her to lay facedown on the bed, when Stephanie entered the room as well. Stabbing Tina twice, Matthew raced after Stephanie, stabbing her multiple times in the chest before returning to Tina, and stabbing her more as well. Matthew stated he knew at that time that both women were dead.

Sarah Maynard

Choosing to “process and dispose” of the bodies, Matthew moved them into the bathroom and began to process them. Using garbage bags, he put the bodies in there and planned to dispose of them in a hollow tree that he knew of. Unfortunately Tina’s two children returned home from school, 11 year old Kody was stabbed upon entering the house, and 13 year old Sarah ran from Matthew. Kody did not survive his attack. Matthew loaded the three bodies into the Stephanie’s Jeep and disposed of them in the hollow tree.

Sarah had not called for help, Matthew decided he couldn’t kill her, when he had found her in her room. Instead he took her to his home, bound her, gagged her, and raped her. He fed her, and watched movies with her, even gave her a book to read. Matthew told Sarah that he was in negotiations with her family for ransom, and she should be home with her family by Christmas. He kept her in the basement, on a bed of leaves that he had made for her.

Matthew was his own downfall. He attempted to return Tina’s truck and then burn the house down. Unfortunately a police investigation was already underway. When returning to the truck, the police were already around it and questioned Matthew. He said he was waiting for his girlfriend to get off work at a nearby location. He was not a suspect at this time.

At the crime scene, investigators found a Walmart bag with garbage bags and tarps inside. They went to the store and watched video footage and found their guy. Matthew was on tape as purchasing these items and driving Tina’s vehicle. As they knew where he lived they went to arrest him.

Four days after murdering three innocent people, Matthew Hoffman was arrested, and Sarah Maynard was found alive. Due to her ordeal, she thought she was going to be late for school and asked officers to take her to school. Sarah was reunited with her father later in the day.

In January 2011, Matthew Hoffman plead guilty to his crimes and was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. He remains incarcerated to this day.

Sarah went to live with her father and step-mother until 2013. In 2013, Sarah was a victim of domestic violence by her father and step-mother, who were both fined. There is a protection order that they are not able to come near her. She along with her half-brothers, 7 and 3, are now living with a relative.

This case was unusual, the leaves are something I have never seen before. I wish that this never had happened, but we can be thankful that Sarah was only with her abductor for 4 days and not months or years. I hope that she is able to get the support and therapy that may help her for the future.

What are your thoughts on this case? Please let me know what you think. Shoutout to Jennifer Y. on recommending this case to me! Please continue to share cases or topics so that I can provide more content to you all!

Cheesecake

Most everyone loves dessert, there are a few random souls that do not, but the majority of us enjoy a little sweetness after a savory meal. Desserts vary and this month, on Tasty Thursdays, I will be sharing a dessert recipe with you. Today is Cheesecake. This is a basic cheesecake, that you can certainly alter to your tastes with the toppings of your choice. You will find this to be a very light, fluffy, cheesecake as opposed denser versions.

Ingredients:

  • Crust –
    • 1 3/4 cups of graham cracker crumbs
    • 3 Tbsp. of sugar
    • pinch of salt
    • 1/2 stick (4 tbsp.) unsalted butter, melted.
  • Filling –
    • 2 lbs, (4 8oz. packages) cream cheese at room temperature.
    • 1 1/3 cups of sugar
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
    • 4 large eggs at room temperature
    • 1 1/3 cups of sour cream, or heavy cream, or a combination of the two.

Directions:

  • Crust
    • Butter a 9 inch springform pan – choose one that has sides that are 2 ¾-inches high (if the sides are lower, you will have cheesecake batter left over) – and wrap the bottom of the pan in a double layer of aluminum foil.
    • Stir the crumbs, sugar and salt together in a medium bowl. Pour over the melted butter and stir until all of the dry ingredients are uniformly moist. Turn the ingredients into the springform pan and use the bottom of a cup measuring cup to pat an even layer of crumbs over the bottom of the pan and about halfway up the sides. Don’t worry if the sides are not perfectly even or if the crumbs reach slightly above or below the midway point on the sides.
    • Center a rack in the oven, preheat the oven to 350° F and place the springform on a baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes. Set the crust aside to cool on a rack while you make the cheesecake.
    • Reduce the oven temperature to 325° F.
  • Cheesecake batter
    • Put a kettle of water on to boil. Put the foil-wrapped springform pan into a roasting pan that is large enough to hold the pan with some space around it.
    • Working with a stand mixer, preferably fitted with a paddle attachment, or with a hand mixer in a large bowl, beat the cream cheese at a medium speed until soft and creamy; about 4 minutes. With the mixer running, add the sugar and salt and continue to beat for another 4 minutes or so, until the cream cheese is light. Beat in the vanilla. Add the eggs one by one, beating for a full minute after each addition – you want a well-aerated batter. Reduce the mixer speed to low and mix in the sour cream and/or heavy cream.
    • Give the batter a few stirs with a rubber spatula, just to make sure that there is nothing left unmixed at the bottom of the bowl, and scrape the batter into the springform pan. The batter will reach the rim of the pan. Put the roasting pan in the oven and pour enough boiling water into it to come halfway up the sides of the springform pan.
    • Bake the cheesecake for 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes, at which point the top should be lightly browned and may have risen just a little above the rim of the pan. It should jiggle slightly when you wiggle the pan. Turn off the oven and prop the oven door open with a wooden spoon. Allow the cheesecake to luxuriate in its water bath for another hour.
    • After 1 hour, carefully pull the setup out of the oven, lift the springform pan out of the roaster – be careful, there may be some hot water in the aluminum foil. Let the cheesecake come to room temperature on a cooling rack.
    • When the cake is cool, cover the top lightly and refrigerate for at least 4 hours; overnight is better.
    • At serving time, run thin, hot knife around the interior edge of the pan and remove the sides of the springform pan. Set the cake on a serving platter, slice, and serve.

Depending on your tastes you can easily put your favorite toppings, chocolate, fruit, whipped cream on top. This is a family favorite and we have it every year at Easter. I hope you all enjoy it and please share your flavor combinations that you enjoy.

Happy Eating!

April 30, 1945

Today’s post may be controversial in it’s theory. I am not defending nor am I disputing the actions that have taken place in history. The years of 1939 to 1945 were filled with horror, loss, and travesties that we in this day and age could not imagine. This topic today revolves around a pinprick in history, the final days of Adolf Hitler. I do not wish to offend anyone, and I certainly do not deny the Holocaust happened. I have stood in a concentration camp in Germany, and felt the somber feeling from those that passed between those barb wired fences and lived in the barracks. I do not doubt that this all happened. I’m only questioning if Adolf Hitler actually died in Berlin by suicide, or if he escaped Europe and made his way to another country that would accept him and his atrocities, allowing him to live until his natural death, decades later. Did his death really happen the way that history has reported or is there more?

According to history, Adolf Hitler and his wife Eva Braun, while spending the last few days of the war in the Fuhrerbunker in Berlin, knowing that the Allied forces were getting closer to the city daily, opted to commit suicide instead of face judgement for their many crimes. It was reported that Eva Braun had died from cyanide poisoning, Adolf Hitler had committed suicide from a gunshot wound in the head, from his own pistol.

Starting in June of 1945, Soviet leaders responded to a question at the Potsdam conference that Hitler was “…either in Spain or Argentina.” Both nations had been sympathetic to the Nazi regime, neither deported people to certain death at the German concentration camps, but they didn’t speak against Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich.

The Fuhrerbunker

July 1945, the charred remains discovered in the Fuhrerbunker were disputed as “a very poor double.” After two years of investigating by the Allies, 51% of the American public believed Hitler was still alive. So if there was belief that he was alive, how did he escape Berlin and where did he eventually go?

This is something that has been examined by major intelligence agencies worldwide, for decades. Declassified FBI documents, have now allowed new investigators, and historians, a chance to learn more about Hitler and his movements before his announced suicide.

Popular theories and belief is that Hitler and Braun left Berlin and made their way to Spain, a country ran by Dictator Francisco Franco. Franco and Hitler had negotiated terms for Franco to join the Axis powers, but Hitler didn’t find the terms favorable. Franco and Spain remained a ‘floating neutral’ country, where they favored the Axis powers but didn’t actively fight against the western countries on behalf of them. It is worth mentioning that Franco saved approximately 45,000 Jews who were in Spain.

From Spain, Hitler and Braun reportedly went to Argentina by Uboat. Before the end of the war, Hitler had dispatched teams to Argentina (and other places across the world) to build militaryesque compounds, providing for soldiers and higher level Nazi’s. These compounds including supplies for medical, military and everyday living. It is believed that Hitler and Braun made it to Argentina and then, they went further into South America.

For more theories on this subject, I would highly recommend watching the show, Hunting Hitler, aired originally on the History Channel. (Not sponsoring this post.) There were three seasons, and they explore the information they learned from the declassified documents, and find out if they answer the question of where is Adolf Hitler?

Personally, I believe that Hitler and possibly many more Nazi’s made it out of Europe to the open arms of Argentina and Juan Peron who also sympathized with the Nazi government. But is it worth learning more on? I say yes, I’m a fan of history and this time period has always held so much intrigue to me. I would love to find out the definite answer but, I don’t think we will ever be able to achieve that.

What are your thoughts on this theory? Do you feel Hitler died in Berlin as reported, or do you think he made his own great escape? Please feel free to share your thoughts on the subject. Again I mean no offense to those who have had family directly affected by this time period and I simply want to have an educated conversation around a topic that historians may still be trying to answer.

Be strong, be beautiful, be you

Joachim

*Warning – the content below may be too graphic for some people, it may contain descriptions of crime scenes, victims of heinous crimes, and crime scene photos. Reader discretion is advised.*

Sadly the terms Serial Killer, Cannibal, and Necrophilia, are terms most people past childhood know. And these terms can be used alone, or together to describe one person. Many people may come to mind, but the one person I wanted to discuss with you today is, Joachim Kroll.

Joachim was born in April of 1933, the youngest of eight children, not much is known about his other family members; however Joachim was known as weak child, and didn’t have formal education past the third grade level. It is reported that his IQ was at 76. After quitting school, Joachim worked as a farmhand and developed a taste for murder.

The murder he witnessed was animals being slaughtered, not only did this feed his murderous fantasies, but it also awakened him sexually. Joachim had attempted to have a relationship with a woman, however he felt awkward and uncomfortable Fearing he was a failure with women, he didn’t pursue a normal relationship ever again.

In 1955, Joachim’s mother passed away, it was believed his father had passed away as a POW during World War II. His siblings all went their own ways and didn’t remain in contact with Joachim.

As he was now on his own, Joachim began to give into his desires. He committed his first murder in February 1955. He strangled his first victim, Irmgard, then raped her corpse, and then cut her abdomen open. After returning home, Joachim would then have intercourse with a rubber sex doll, specifically purchased for this purpose. This post kill ritual wasn’t complete without choking a small child’s toy doll, while playing with his own doll.

Joachim claimed to not have killed again until 1959. Despite having a low IQ, Joachim displayed signs of higher intelligence; self awareness, methodical, traveling to other cities to commit his crimes; and not being “serial” by modern standards. He didn’t hunt for a certain age group, his victims ranged from 4 years old to 61 years old. He mainly killed women and girls, but did murder one man. Some victims had flesh removed for later consumption, and others did not. Due to the fact that Joachim kept a fairly low profile, and the fact of other murderers working in West Germany at the time, prevented authorities from discovering him sooner.

In 1976, Joachim was living in an apartment building that had a shared bathroom for the tenants. One tenant asked Joachim if he knew what was blocking the bathroom toilet, his reply was simply; “Guts.”

Thinking this was a joke, the neighbor laughed, but immediately stopped when he discovered tiny human organs in the toilet. He immediately called the police.

When the police arrived they searched Joachim’s apartment and discovered human remains in his refrigerator, on the stove cooking, and in the plumbing. Joachim was immediately arrested and confessed to 13 murders and cannibalism.

His trial lasted 151 days, and Joachim had cooperated with police under the impression that he would be given a cure for his homicidal urges. However no cure was given and he was sentenced to life in prison.

Joachim Kroll died at 58 years old in 1991, from a heart attack. He had served less than 10 years in prison.

This is quite unusual in the fact that Joachim had been able to kill undetected for over 20 years, and only was discovered when trying to destroy the remains of his last victim. It’s tragic and unfortunate that the only reason his last victim was murdered was that Joachim had been a neighborhood favorite with the kids as a fun person, having candy and sweets, and letting the kids play with toys and fun games with them. He would babysit often and was trusted by the parents with their kids. 4 year old Marion Kettner was only looking to play dolls and have some candy, when she died at the hands of Joachim. If creepy neighbor had a poster child it would be Joachim Kroll.

I hope this information encourages you to learn more about the case and if you have any insight or thoughts about it, please let me know. I’m eager to learn about more unusual cases that I can share with you all as well.

Please be ever alert, make good choices, stay safe

The primer on face Primers

Twenty years ago I never heard of face primers, now we have face primers not only for our face, but eyes and lips too. But are they needed? what do they really do?

In my personal opinion, primers are absolutely needed. They can do so much for you and your skin but also for your makeup.

After cleansing and following your skincare regime (see previous posts for a step by step guide) you will want to start applying your makeup. But let’s start with the beginning, primer.

Your makeup can be applied on unprimed or unprepared skin, but your make up won’t look as good, you will use more product, and it won’t let you put your best face forward.

Now face primer comes in many options; color correcting, brightening, blurring, oil free, and sensitive skin. As many options you can find in your moisturizer, you can find a primer to compliment it.

Primer is designed to ‘prime’ your skin for the next step: make up. When applying a primer you are filling the fine lines, covering the blemishes that would otherwise prevent you from achieving that airbrushed look, or smooth face with your makeup.

After moisturizing and applying sunscreen, you apply a small amount of primer onto the back of your hand, and then massage it into your face. You then follow it up with your foundation or other make up products your use.

But you can specially prime other areas as well. Eyes and lips have their own formulas for primers as well.

Eye primers help prevent creasing, fading or even bleeding of your eye make up. They are designed to be oil free. Since your eye lids are more oily, I do not recommend using concealer, which is more of an oily product, and powder instead of primer on your eyes. The amount of primer needed for your eyes is less than a pea sized amount. This should be plenty for both eyes. After priming, you can make those beautiful orbs that can show your soul pop even more with your shadows and liners.

Similarly, lip primers will help prevent bleeding, fading, and cakey lip sticks. I have personally found that chapstick is a great moisturizer for your lips and then priming will allow you to have long lasting lip looks.

Don’t be afraid to work with different brands and formulas. What’s nice about make up is that you can make it up as you go and the look you love is all that matters. These are simply suggestions, not requirements.

Be strong, be beautiful, be you

The Garden of Good And Evil

Hello my lovelies, I’m coming to you late today, unfortunately, but it’s been a busy day and next week is going to be even crazier. But after a week of cold (think 30 degrees Fahrenheit at night cold) and rain almost every day, I was taking advantage of a nice warmer day to work outside. With that being said I was originally going talk to you all today about the Bell Farm, however, I have come up with another subject that I wanted to talk about. Gardens.

The title I have here is not only a great book and movie, but it gives the idea that gardens, can be both good and evil. Since I’m not a person that has ever been into gardening, I’m just getting into making the front of my house more customized to me and my tastes. But sadly I can’t make the garden in the front of the house, “evil”.

When I say evil, I don’t mean having Venus Flytraps, saying “Feed me, Seymour.” I’m saying having plants that could be used lethally if desired. An inspiring garden that follows this thought, is The Alnwick Poison Garden in England. Originally created by the Duchess of Northumberland, the garden boasts the largest Japanese cherry garden in the world, and also the deadliest garden filled with plants that visitors are prevented from, touching, tasting, or smelling. The most deadly are kept in cages. You can learn about and see over 100 toxic, intoxicating, and narcotic plants.

So in England, the plants you will be able to see include: Strychnos nux-vomica; a source of Strychnine, Hemlock, Ricinus Communis; deadly ricin, Foxglove, Belladonna (also known as Nightshade), Brugmansia and Laburnum.

Part of the reason deadly plants kill, is because they don’t look deadly. They can bloom beautiful flowers, they can have alluring fragrance, but inhaling it may cause you to faint, or worse. So since I have kids, animals, and live in an area with numerous people and wildlife, I have to refrain from planting and caring for my own version of a poison garden. Plus the fact that answering those uncomfortable questions, such as where were you on the night of XXX, or how do you know the victim?

Since some of my plants will be culinary herbs, I do have to be responsible and ensure that my family, friends, neighbors, and animals are not affected by other unsavory items. Insert evil laugh here.

However I encourage you all to visit the Alnwick Poison Garden, simply to educate yourselves on what mother nature is capable of, and enjoy the beauty of the world at large.

I plan to have a garden of good, sigh, not evil, but maybe in the future I can create my own greenhouse garden of evil.

Issei Sagawa

*Warning – The information you are about to read may include discussions of true crimes, graphic details, and crime scenes, this may be too graphic for some people, please use discretion when reading*

There are things in life we all want to try. Skiing, traveling on a camel in the desert, or trying the unique cuisine of international locations. Some cuisine we may not want to try, such as the cuisine that Issei Sagawa had a taste for in 1981.

Issei Sagawa was born in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan in 1949 to wealthy parents. Due to childhood illness, he was rather small and introverted. Because of this, he developed a strong interest in literature. When he was in the first grade it is reported he first experienced cannibalistic desires after seeing a male’s thigh. In an interview in 2011 Issei reported that as a youth, he partook in bestiality with his dog, and experience cannibalistic desires for women.

In 1977, Issei moved to France to pursue his Ph.D in literature at the Sorbonne in Paris. Every night he tried to shoot the prostitute that he brought home, but he froze up and was never able to pull the trigger.

While in the Sorbonne, Issei Sagawa met and befriended his classmate, Renee Hartevelt. She was a Dutch woman, who Issei felt was beautiful and healthy; two things he felt he was lacking. Issei purposely invited her over with the intention of killing and eating her. He wanted to absorb her essence. After she arrived to his apartment, Issei shot her in the neck with a rifle, and claims to have passed out. After waking, he carried out the rest of his morbid plan.

Issei had sex with her corpse, but was unable to bite into her skin because his teeth were not sharp enough. He butchered her body, and consumed various parts of her, eating most of her breasts and face either raw or cooked. Other parts were saved in his refrigerator. He took various pictures each time he ate her. He attempted to dump the rest of her body in a lake. He carried her body in two suitcases but was caught in the act and arrested by French Police four days later.

Because his family was wealthy, Issei’s father paid for a defense lawyer. He was held for two years before his trial, and found legally insane and unfit to stand trial. He was ordered by the French judge to be held indefinitely in a mental institution.

After meeting with an author, his account of the crime was published in Japan under the title In The Fog. His macabre celebrity contributed to his deportation from France back to Japan. While examined by Japanese psychologists, who all declared him sane, Issei was able to check himself out of the mental hospital he was originally sent to, and as the charges in France were dropped, he’s been free since August 12, 1986.

Issei has been able to appear in movies, writing books of his crimes, and also reviewing local restaurants. In 2005 his parents passed away and he was prevented from attending their funeral. As he is unable to support himself, he has had to accept welfare benefits. In 2013 he was hospitalized for a cerebral infarction, and now lives alone, dependent on daily assistance from his younger brother or other caregivers.

Issei Sagawa has said that being forced to make a living while being known as a murderer and cannibal was a terrible punishment. I think Renee Hartevelt would disagree, there are somethings that are worse.

Be safe, be strong, make good choices
